The Rev. Dr. Lloyd L. Olsen, Jr. was ordained to the Priesthood in the Diocese of Central Florida in 1985. He has a diverse background, having served as a foreign missionary, a hospital chaplain, and five parishes as a parish priest. Most recently, Fr. Olsen served as an Associate Priest at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke (Orlando) and as Priest in Charge at several churches in our area, including Church of the Holy Spirit, before being called to be the Rector in 2007.
Fr. Olsen is a graduate of the University of Michigan and Virginia Theological Seminary. After years of parish ministry, he felt compelled by his pastoral experiences to study more deeply “why bad things happen to good people.” Since the late 1990’s, he has been engaged in postgraduate studies concerning the “problem of evil,” earning a Doctorate (D.Min.) from Reformed Theological Seminary, then pursuing extensive postgraduate studies through the London School of Theology, London, England. Presently, Fr. Olsen is working toward a research Doctorate (Ph.D.) through the Graduate Theological Foundation, requiring studies at Christ Church, Oxford University. He also lectures regularly as an Adjunct Professor of Theology, at Barry University.
Fr. Olsen and Ginette (a psychotherapist at the Episcopal Counseling Center and originally from Venezuela) have two married children, David and Michelle, and two grandchildren. “It is a privilege to serve Christ in such a loving, praying, and vibrant congregation,” says Olsen, “and if you do not have a church home, let me invite you to come to the Church of Holy Spirit, and to taste and see that the Lord is gracious!”
